PEER REVIEW PROCESS
The Euro-Atlantic Studies New Series is committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic quality, integrity, and transparency through a rigorous double-blind peer review process. All manuscripts submitted to the journal are evaluated solely on their scholarly merit, originality, methodological soundness, relevance to the journal’s scope, and contribution to the field.
Initial Editorial Assessment
Upon submission, each manuscript undergoes an initial editorial screening conducted by the Editor-in-Chief or a designated member of the Editorial Board. At this stage, the manuscript is assessed to determine whether it:
- falls within the aims and scope of the journal;
- complies with the journal’s submission guidelines;
- meets basic standards of academic quality and presentation;
- adheres to ethical publishing requirements;
- demonstrates sufficient originality and scholarly relevance.
The Editorial Office may reject manuscripts that clearly fall outside the journal’s scope or fail to meet the minimum editorial standards without external peer review.
Double-Blind Peer Review
Manuscripts that successfully pass the initial editorial screening are submitted to at least two independent expert reviewers under a double-blind peer review process. The identities of both authors and reviewers remain anonymous throughout the review process to ensure an impartial and objective evaluation.
Authors are required to remove all identifying information from the manuscript before submission. Likewise, reviewers’ identities are not disclosed to authors.
If a reviewer recognizes the identity of an author and believes that this may create a conflict of interest or compromise impartiality, the reviewer must immediately inform the Editor and decline the review invitation.
Review Criteria
Reviewers evaluate manuscripts according to the following criteria:
- originality and significance of the research;
- relevance to the journal’s scope;
- scientific and methodological rigor;
- quality of analysis and interpretation;
- clarity of presentation and organization;
- appropriate use of references and literature;
- compliance with ethical research standards;
- overall contribution to the academic field.
Reviewers are expected to provide constructive, objective, and evidence-based comments that assist both the editors and the authors.
Editorial Decisions
Based on the reviewers’ reports, the Editor-in-Chief makes one of the following editorial decisions:
- Accept without revisions;
- Accept with minor revisions;
- Invite major revisions and resubmission;
- Reject the manuscript.
The final publication decision rests exclusively with the Editor-in-Chief.
When reviewers provide substantially conflicting recommendations, the Editor may appoint an additional independent reviewer before reaching a final decision.
Revision Process
Authors receiving requests for revision are expected to submit a revised manuscript together with a detailed response explaining how each reviewer comment has been addressed.
Revised manuscripts may be returned to the original reviewers for further evaluation when necessary.
Confidentiality
All manuscripts submitted to the journal are treated as confidential documents. Editors, reviewers, and members of the Editorial Office must not disclose, discuss, copy, or use unpublished material for personal or professional advantage.
Reviewers may not share manuscripts with third parties without prior permission from the Editor.
Conflicts of Interest
Editors and reviewers must declare any actual or potential conflicts of interest that could influence their judgment. Individuals with conflicts of interest shall withdraw from the review or editorial decision-making process.
Authors are also expected to disclose any financial, institutional, or personal relationships that may influence their research.
Publication Ethics
The journal adheres to internationally recognized standards of publication ethics and editorial integrity. Editors, reviewers, and authors are expected to follow principles of fairness, confidentiality, transparency, and academic honesty throughout the publication process.
Cases involving plagiarism, data fabrication, duplicate publication, unethical research practices, or other forms of academic misconduct will be investigated by the Editorial Board. Appropriate editorial actions, including manuscript rejection or article retraction, may be taken when necessary.
Editorial Responsibility
The Editor-in-Chief oversees the entire editorial and peer review process and is responsible for ensuring that editorial decisions are made fairly, consistently, and independently.
The International Editorial Board supports the Editor-in-Chief in maintaining the journal’s academic quality and ethical standards. Any disputes arising during the editorial or publication process are reviewed by the Editorial Board in accordance with the journal’s ethical policies.
The journal is committed to providing a fair, timely, transparent, and rigorous peer review process that promotes excellence in scholarly publishing.
Plagiarism Screening
All submitted manuscripts are routinely screened for plagiarism as part of the initial editorial assessment before being sent for peer review.
The Editorial Office carefully evaluates each submission to identify potential cases of plagiarism, self-plagiarism, duplicate publication, inappropriate citation practices, or other forms of academic misconduct. Where appropriate, plagiarism detection tools may also be used.
Manuscripts found to contain substantial overlap with previously published works or evidence of research misconduct may be rejected without external peer review. PROCESS FOR IDENTIFICATION OF AND DEALING WITH ALLEGATIONS OF RESEARCH MISCONDUCT
Editors of EAS are obliged to declare any potential competing interest in undertaking their editorial duties. Our editors will have no power to influence the peer-review process or the publication decision for an article they authored and submitted to the journal. If a submitted manuscript is authored by one of our editors, a co-editor or an external party will manage the entire review process. Furthermore, should such a situation appear and the manuscript is going to be published, it will be explicitly stated in the article/book review that the editor who submitted the work was not involved in any way in the peer review process of that specific paper.
Misconduct Handling
Any publication found to include fraudulent results will be retracted, or an appropriate correction or expression of concern will be issued. Cases of suspected misconduct will be handled following the guidelines set out by the COPE Code of Conduct for Journal Editors

PUBLICATION ETHICS
When submitting a paper to Euro-Atlantic Studies New Series, the Author thereby confirms his or her authorship. The Author must present in full all sources of information consulted in the work, including lists of sources (both published and unpublished), research literature (including the Authors’ own previously published works), and informants (when publishing the results of field studies). The Author ensures that if he/she has used the work and/or words of others, this has been appropriately cited or quoted. Any form of plagiarism is unacceptable; self-plagiarism, i.e., the attempt to republish one’s own previously published work without significant changes to it, is unacceptable as well.
It is the responsibility of the author/s to ensure that the Manuscript is an original work and sole property of the author(s) and the manuscript has not been published and is not subject to publication in another journal. Also, significant parts of the work have not been published.
Concurrent submission of the same work to the Euro-Atlantic Studies New Series and any other publication is prohibited.
In case of violation of any of the rules listed above, the Editorial Team is entitled to refuse the publication of the article at any time, including during preliminary consideration, without involving reviewers. Any changes added by the Author to a text that has been peer-reviewed and accepted for publication can be made only in coordination with the Editorial Team. An Author can withdraw an accepted work only before the materials have been sent out for editing. It is unacceptable for an Author to place into the public domain materials that have been accepted for publication and sent for editing but have not yet been published.
