To this end, papers are welcome on topics that analyze or critically appraise these security and geopolitical issues. This could be in terms of inter and trans-disciplinary areas, the intersection of history with other domains to understand the current crises and future challenges in the Baltic-Black Sea Region. In addition, the conference sessions will debate the particular issues and themes, that have distinguished this field of research thus far with a view to identifying political questions or geopolitical issues that remain unanswered. In so doing, the conference will continue to underline the various interests of great powers in this region and, why in European history the Baltic-Black Sea space was a geopolitical battleground. Furthermore, theoretical approaches and research methodologies that address the multiple causal factors or inter-related levels of analysis are invited. Moreover, attention to issues of duality and the inter-relatedness of history and security studies with socio-cultural contexts are encouraged. Also of interest are critical evaluations of the competing US, EU, NATO, and Russian policies and strategies in this region.
